Hello! I’m excited you’re here! Meeting new people through my business is SO fun for me and I look forward to meeting you!
But, before we get there, let me tell you a little bit about me…
With over 30 years of experience, my photography journey initially started with a Polaroid camera! I later graduated to 35mm format, in the world of film and darkroom.
In 2000, after getting many requests to do sessions from friends and family, I decided to officially start my own photography business. I have been blessed to meet so many amazing families, have photographed kids from the time they were toddlers all the way to senior year and had the opportunity to ‘freeze’ thousands of priceless moments in a world where life moves way too fast.
Over the last couple of decades, I have traded film and darkrooms for digital technology but my commitment to authenticity hasn’t changed. I was taught early on, before the days of being able to edit an image, to get the perfect shot with the camera and I still hold to that to this day. While editing software can be absolutely be helpful on occasion, I never utilize AI or filters in my work. It’s just me, my camera and a passion for capturing timeless moments.
Over the years I have pretty much done it all….family sessions, engagements, maternity, newborn shoots, seniors, weddings, charity events, sports action and even one end of life session. I’m so grateful for each and every opportunity I’ve been given and was honored to be a part of them. But, honestly, seniors and families have been my FAVORITE!
Senior year, whether high school or college, is a pivotal and exciting time of life. It brings me so much joy to bottle up that enthusiasm in photos.
Family photos are, as cliche as it sounds, priceless! They are literally our link from generation to generation. Preserving those moments through photos is truly an honor for me.
My photography style is a mix of traditional poses and candid lifestyle. Both have their place. I use natural, outdoor lighting and strive to make every session simple & fun!
I was born & raised on the South Plains of Texas, in a little town near Lubbock but have lived in the Austin area since 1997. My husband and I live near Burnet, where we have raised our 2 sons. Our older son and daughter-in-law live near so we get to see them often and our youngest son is 16. I’ve been blessed to homeschool them both for the last 14 years! I love the Lord and am a volunteer photographer with our church. You can often find me outside gardening, hiking, at the lake or eating chips & salsa!
I have an Associates Degree and Bachelors Degree in Communications from
South Plains College &
Concordia University respectfully.
Over the last five or so years, I’ve taken a small step back from doing as many sessions, in order to allow me more time to focus on my family. Now that our youngest is nearing graduation soon, I’m excited to re-launch my business, meet new faces and capture more sweet moments!
So, here we are, on the 25th year of Shannon Prothro Photography and I feel like it’s only fitting to have a ‘reboot’ of sorts.
New logo. New camera. New website.
Same authenticity, affordability and service!
Whether or not I was your photographer in the first 25 years,
I hope you’ll join me in the 2nd 25 years!
Your family! Your events! Your moments!
Life is short, time is fleeting and I’m excited to be a part of your journey and tell your story. I can’t wait to meet you!
Blessings,
- Shannon
I used my original logo, above, for about 20 years. I loved it so much! But after 25 years in business, I wanted a change. Viola! My new logo is below!
